The famous of Tirupparankundram Thirukkoil:
God Murugan has six padai veedukal. Padai veedu means the barracks used to stay with the military personnel to fight against the enemy. God Muruga has many barracks (padai veedukal) before the war against Soorapadman. A richest person finds a poor man and he guides towards the persons who are having the particulars famous deeds to get the things from him, that the guidance is called (guidelines) atrupadai. To get wealth and things like that our ancestor gave guidelines to get divine and purity. Nakkerar has sung in Thirumurugatruppadai which example for that.To give guideline in Thirumurugatrupadai reveals some places where Lord Muruga raised. In due course Atrupadai veedukal become Arupadai Veedukal. Our anchesters selected in that there are only six places which is best to worship. They are Tirupparankundram, Thirucheelaivai (Thiruchendur), Tiruvavinankudi (Palani), Thiruveragam (Swamimalai), Kundruthoradal (Thiruthanigai), Pazhamuthirsolai.
The devotees are enjoyed by thinking number six in connection with the things to six faces of God Muruga. Nakeerar in his dedication Thirumurugatrupadai has mentioned six places where God Muruga is inhabiting. From that the Arupadai veedukal has become the conventional name.
Kumarakurubarar has mentioned in his Kalivenba that God Muruga is in the minds of those who are visited the six thirupathi and those who are pronounced six letters. They are mentioned the Arupadai Veedukal as Six Thirupathi. Of the six famous padai veedukal, the first one is Tirupparankundram.
