The city is situated in Tamilnadu 5 Km distance south of the biggest city called Temple City and Festival city Madurai next to Chennai. It is the next station going southern from Madurai Railway Junction.It has said that the poet Nakkeerar had sung in Thirumurukatrupadai that Tirupparankundram is situated in western side of the Temple or Koodal city called Madurai. Kachiappar also mentioned in Kanthapuranam that Parankundram placed in the western side of Koodal city. Today we can see from the eastern side of Madurai city that Parankundram viewed in South-western side.
The Madurai city fully expanded in western side. Parankundram is situated in Southern side. Tirupparankundram is become one of the important cities of Pandian Kingdom.
Of the four Saiva religious kuravars, the two Thirugnanasampanthar and Sundaramoorthy swamikal’s referred in their Thevaram songs and the people of the world to get all the four i.e. Philanthropy, Wealth, Pleasure, enlighten (Mukthi) the Almighty had incarnated as God Muruga in Tirupparankundram which is glittering one of the fourteen Saiva holy places in Pandiyan Kingdom. This city is described as peculiar one city by the above kuravars. This place has got properly all the special features like Moorthi, Thalam, Theertham and has got good name among the holy places. People have thronged daily to worship and to get implementation of their desire in this place.
In the beautiful nature environment covered Tirupparankundram, at the bottom of the 300 mtr. Height of the mountain (Kundru) and in the heart of the village, the beautiful temple is erected in a grand manner. It has become the famous first padai house of the six padai houses of God Murugan, it is called in his name as Arulmigu Subramaniaswami Thirukkoil. This place is among one of the 275 Thevara Sthalams and is situated just 5 Km. Distance south-west from Madurai near the Madurai-Kanniyakumari National Highway in Pandian kingdom.
