Kanyakumari, the “Land’s end of India” is an important tourist centre in India. this place is about 12 miles south-east of Nagercoil, 50 miles south west of Tirunelveli and 147 miles from Madurai. It is famous as a holiday resort and health centre and also as pilgrim centre because of its temple dedicated to the Virgin Goddess Bhagawathi. Kanyakumari is at the junction where three seas, Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea meet.
Kanyakumari Temple
Kanyakumari Temple is amidst picturesque surroundings just on the seashore. It is stated that Parasurama installed the Idol of Sivashakthi here and worshipped it. the image of the Goddess Kanyakumari is bewitching beauty and to those who seen it she will ever remain enshrined to their minds eye. The story goes that she wanted to marry Shiva and that could not take place. She preferred to remain a virgin (Kanya) by doing penance. A bath in the Kumari ghat where the three seas meet is considered to be sacred. The temple is open from 4.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.
Beach
The beach at Kanyakumari is very beautiful. It is place of natural charm. People are attracted by the fine natural setting, the breeze and quietness to this beautiful place. Here, the sea and the mountain ghats, (the tapering end of the western ghats) meet where the land tappers down almost to a point. Here again one can enjoy the unique sight of Sun-rise and Sun-set in the sea.
Thiruvalluvar Statue
To perpetaute the memory of Thiruvalluvar, the Tamil nadu Government has installed a statue of Thiruvalluvar Kanyakumari at the confluence of the three seas. The stone statue is 133 feet high including pedestal.

Gandhi Mantap
The beautiful structure which serves as a monument to the glory of the Father of Nation, is erected at Kanyakumari at the place where the ashes of the Mahatma Gandhi were immersed in the sea.
Vivekananda Rock
The Vivekananda Rock is about 200 yards away from the temple. It is said that the Indian Philosopher Swami Vivekananda who came to Kanyakumari towards the close of 1892, was so much fascinated by the place that he swam to this rock and sat there in meditation for sometime. It was here, it is believed that and spread the messages of the Vadanta to the west. It is open from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Roman Catholic Church – A 16TH Century Church
A swimming pool has been constructed on the sea from where visitors can enjoy all the pleasure of sea-bathing, with none of its risks, There is also bathing ghat on the southern side of the temple where pilgrims can bath in safety without fear of being carried away by the waves.
The beach deposits of Kanyakumari contains minerals of industrial use such as Monazite, Ilmeni, Rutile, Ziron, Silliminite etc. different in colour and shape and the celebrated rice sand which bears a close resemblance to rice.
Suchindrum
Suchindrum temple is situated four miles from Nagercoil and eight miles from Kanyakumari in Nagarcoil-Cape Comorin road. Suchindrum means the place where Indra worshipped God to make himself pure (Suchi). It is also called SIVINDRAM thereby meaning that Indra worshipped Lord Shiva here.
Lambenarayan Temple
Located at Tirukkarankudi (Nanguneri Taluk) situated at the 9th mile south-west of Naguneri. Nanguneri is at 20 miles from Tirunelveli.
Chote Narayan Temple
Located at Panagudi, situated on the National Highways between Tirunelveli and Nagerkoil is 35 miles from Tirunelveli.
Thothadri Temple
Located at Nanguneri, 20 miles from Tirunelveli.
